Wired Ministries

THE BEST WAY TO FIND YOURSELF, IS TO LOSE YOURSELF IN THE SERVICE OF OTHERS. - Mahatma Gandhi

The summers during my freshman and sophomore years of college, I worked as a track leader for Wired Camp Ministries. Wired Ministries is a ministry that serves people in Dothan, Alabama and its surrounding areas. This camp was created to fill needs in the community and to teach young kids that there is a need for volunteering right in their community. Many kids think you have to travel to a different country or big city to make an impact to serve and this camp allows kids to serve in their community. The camp has four different ministry teams you can choose to serve on. The teams are: social, sports, construction, and vacation bible school. As a track leader, my daily responsibilities were to encourage and welcome the campers during the morning and night celebration, to teach a bible study and to lead a group of teens in serving at whatever site we were at.

The first year, I lead a group of teens serving the social team. Each day my group was at a different site. These sites included a clothing mission store, a senior citizen center, a senior citizen home, a soup kitchen, and a women’s hope group. My team sorted and organized clothes, prepared meals, and loved on senior citizens. My second summer, I lead a group of teens serving the sports team. My group teamed up with a church offering a sports camp to local kids. We taught the basic fundamentals of softball, baseball, soccer, and cheerleading. I have always loved to serve others and being a track leader allowed me to do that as well as gain leadership experience. You have to be very organized and on top of things to be a track leader. These two skills have followed me through my college career and will follow me through life.
